Quote Of The Day

"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." - Albert Einstein

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team used their bye week to sharpen their playoff preparation against stiff competition β€” with mixed results. After picking up a solid 6-2 victory over Iowa Colony on Friday, the Cubs ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday afternoon when they faced Cy Woods, one of the top-ranked 6A programs in Texas.

Cy Woods entered the contest riding a dominant 26-2 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in district play. The Wildcats lived up to their billing, run-ruling Brenham 10-0 while their pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter.

The Wildcats scored in each of the first four innings, steadily pulling away. Brenham's afternoon was made worse by five fielding errors, which directly contributed to nine of Cy Woods' ten runs being unearned. Offensively, the Cubs could manage only three walks and a hit batter β€” never once reaching base on a hit.

On the mound for Brenham, Brayden Steele took the loss, throwing three innings and allowing five hits and six runs, with just one earned. Hudson Hartstack and Sterling Scheffer each added an inning of relief work.

With the defeat, the Cubs fall to 20-9-1 on the season. The loss was a non-district contest, meaning Brenham's playoff positioning remains intact as they return to District 17-5A play. Their next challenge comes Tuesday against Rudder, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fireman's Park.

KWHI will carry live coverage of that game beginning at 6:35 p.m. on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com β€” so Cubs fans will have plenty of ways to follow along as Brenham looks to bounce back.
