Trivia Questionâť“

Washington County, Texas is often called the "Birthplace of Texas" because it is home to Washington-on-the-Brazos, where delegates signed what founding document in March 1836?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Mask-erade on Main returns to downtown Brenham Saturday, October 31, from 2–5 PM. The tourism event listing says participating Main Street businesses will welcome the community for trick-or-treating in the historic downtown area.

Visit Brenham’s fall activities guide identifies the outing as free and family friendly. Shopping, meals and other purchases should be budgeted separately; free admission does not mean every part of an afternoon downtown is included.

Build a simple plan around the published three-hour window. Pick a meeting point, choose comfortable costumes, bring a collection bag and allow time for breaks. Families with allergy or accessibility needs should confirm essential arrangements directly rather than assume they are provided. Set a pickup time before older children separate from the group.

Check the official downtown visitor page before leaving. A full participating-store list, rain alternative, reserved parking arrangement and detailed street closures were not confirmed in the material reviewed.

Keep nearby celebrations straight when sharing plans: Burton’s listed event was October 24 and Chappell Hill’s was October 25. Those dates have passed. This invitation is specifically for Brenham on October 31.

All times are Central Time. Details were checked October 27. Review current weather and organizer updates before heading downtown, especially if your group is traveling from a surrounding community.

Brenham ISD lists October 28 as its next Strategic Planning Committee session date. The official Round 2 page still marked the associated resources “Coming Soon” when checked October 27. The next listed session is November 18.

Round 2 focuses on reviewing progress and connecting earlier planning with implementation after the November 2025 measures. The page does not establish a starting time, location or public-attendance process. Contact the district before making plans to attend.

For the high-school beat, the posted bond update describes auxiliary-gym flooring replacement as planned for summer 2027. That remains a plan; it is not evidence that work has started or the improvement is complete.

The October 19 board agenda also listed consideration of a $5,579,860 phase-one maintenance-bond budget. An agenda alone does not establish a vote outcome. Look for a subsequent official record before describing an action as approved.

Families can track progress by separating proposals, authorizations and completed work, and checking the date on every update. Direct campus notices remain the appropriate place to watch for instructions affecting students.

The district news page points readers to ParentSquare resources. Watch for the October 28 materials and bring specific campus questions to the district. This draft reports the published dates and plans without assuming unposted meeting or construction details.

Brenham’s 40-3 win over Bastrop at Cub Stadium was the Cubs’ 700th all-time victory, a milestone celebrated with former players who helped build the program.

The Cubs finished non-district play at 5-0, powered by quarterback Roland Branch Jr., who threw five first-half touchdown passes and had 239 passing yards before halftime.

Markell Lewis scored on Brenham’s opening possession, and Quincy Adams returned a blocked punt for a touchdown as the Cubs raced to a 26-0 first-quarter lead.

Lewis finished with 111 receiving yards, while Nate Rau caught two touchdowns and CJ Glover and Jaden Nickerson each caught one.

Brenham’s defense held Bastrop to 127 total yards, with Kingston Hall and AJ Mitchell recovering fumbles on consecutive drives.

After the final kneel-down, players and cheerleaders celebrated a win that connected this unbeaten team with generations of Cubs before it.

Blinn College freshman safety K'hrin Hollerman has quickly become a leader on and off the stat sheet.

Through his first five games, the Houston native led the Buccaneers with 52 tackles, including 26 solo stops, and added an interception and a pass breakup.

He made at least eight tackles in every game and reached 12 three times.

From the secondary, Hollerman also helps linebackers and defensive linemen recognize plays and get organized before the snap.

Head coach Ryan Mahon has praised the freshman’s awareness and grasp of the defense.

A Cypress Springs High School graduate, Hollerman credits his father with teaching him to embrace football’s physical side, but he measures his progress by more than tackles.

As Blinn prepares to face No. 12 Snow College at Cub Stadium in Brenham, his focus remains on communicating early, learning from mistakes and helping the defense finish plays.

Interception plus a pass breakup on top of 52 tackles. He's everywhere on that field.

Burton’s Wine & Wander is Friday, October 30. The tourism calendar lists the Destination Burton event from 6–9 PM, with a Grease theme and 1950s attire encouraged. Begin at the Texas Cotton Gin Museum to collect an event map.

The starting address is 307 North Main Street. Use the map to choose participating businesses rather than assume every shop is staying open late. The reviewed notices do not establish an all-inclusive drink package, ticket price or uniform age policy.

Individual closing times matter. The museum’s notice gives its Wine & Wander hours as 6–8 PM, and The Pink Door on Main also announces an 8 PM closing. Put must-visit stops earlier in the evening.

Antiques at the Pavilions continues through November 1. Its daily closing time also differs between published notices: 5 PM in tourism listings and 6 PM on the museum page. Confirm directly before relying on that last hour.

The museum can be reached at 979-289-3378 through its visitor information page. Covered shopping and free parking are advertised for the antiques event, with purchases budgeted separately.

Wear comfortable shoes, take measurements for larger purchases and arrange transportation if drinks are part of your evening. All times are Central Time; information was checked October 27.

The City of Brenham is moving to safeguard its water supply as water-intensive businesses expand rapidly.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has proposed new regulations for car washes and data centers to address mounting concerns about water use and environmental impact.

Under these recommendations, new car washes would be capped at 55 gallons of water per vehicle and required to run water reclamation and recycling systems around the clock.

Renovated car washes exceeding 60% of their value would also need to comply, while those with private wells would still need recycling systems but be exempt from usage caps.

A two-mile buffer between car washes is also proposed to prevent oversaturation.

For data centers, proposed rules would restrict them to industrial zones, ban water-based cooling systems, and require a thorough approval process.

These measures head to City Council, signaling a major move toward sustainable growth in Brenham.

Good to see the city actually getting ahead of something instead of playing catch up after the damage is done.

Bellville has two market stops planned for Saturday, November 7. The chamber’s dated event notice lists free public admission, with the Farmers Market running 9 AM–noon and downtown Market Day running 9 AM–4 PM.

Start at Bishop Pavilion, at Bell and Palm streets, if food shopping is your priority. It is one block off the square. Market Day takes place on the square, giving visitors a longer afternoon window for browsing.

The notice describes seasonal food and produce at the Farmers Market and handmade goods, gifts and food at Market Day. Vendor attendance and inventory can vary. Arrive early for the best opportunity to find what you want, without assuming a particular item is guaranteed.

Check the November 7 calendar before departing. Admission is free, but purchases are separate. Bring bags, consider appropriate food storage and ask sellers about payment or pickup arrangements.

For current event questions, the Bellville Chamber lists Megan Kendrick at 979-270-1434 and [email protected]. Confirm accessibility, parking needs or weather changes directly; those arrangements were not established in the reviewed notice.

Bellville’s downtown location is in Austin County and inside this publication’s Brenham-centered 30-mile straight-line coverage area. Road distance is different. Plan your route separately, visit the pavilion first and leave time for the square. Details were checked October 27.
