Some partnerships are built on contracts. Others are built on community.

The local WoodmenLife office and Brenham Baseball and Softball have once again proven that the best collaborations come from a shared commitment to Washington County's future. Their annual Giving Together Project at Hohlt Park brought volunteers, resources, and heart to create something bigger than any single organization could achieve alone.

A Tradition of Service

For years, WoodmenLife has made giving back a cornerstone of their mission in Brenham. But this annual project with local youth sports organizations takes that commitment to the field—literally.

The partnership focuses on improving facilities, providing equipment, and ensuring that every young athlete in Washington County has access to quality sports programs. From maintaining fields to supporting teams, the Giving Together Project touches every aspect of the youth sports experience.

More Than Maintenance

While the physical improvements at Hohlt Park are visible—better fields, upgraded facilities, enhanced safety features—the real impact runs deeper.

Young athletes learn that their community believes in them. Parents see that local businesses prioritize more than just the bottom line. And the entire Washington County area benefits from programs that keep kids active, engaged, and developing life skills through sports.

WoodmenLife's investment sends a clear message: We believe in Brenham's youth, and we're putting our time and resources behind that belief.

The Ripple Effect

When a company like WoodmenLife partners with youth sports, the benefits extend far beyond the baseball diamond or softball field.

Research consistently shows that youth who participate in organized sports develop stronger leadership skills, better time management, and increased self-confidence. By supporting Brenham Baseball and Softball, WoodmenLife isn't just maintaining fields—they're helping shape the next generation of Washington County leaders.

And when other local businesses see this kind of community investment, it creates a ripple effect. More partnerships form. More resources flow into youth programs. More kids get opportunities they might otherwise miss.

Looking Forward

The annual Giving Together Project isn't a one-time event—it's a growing tradition. Each year, the partnership between WoodmenLife and Brenham's youth sports programs deepens, finding new ways to serve local families.

For parents, it means affordable, quality sports programs for their children. For young athletes, it means the chance to learn, compete, and grow. For the community, it means stronger connections between businesses, families, and the next generation.

In Brenham, that's what giving together really means.

As someone who coaches youth ball in this area I can tell you facilities matter more than people think. Kids take better care of nice fields too.

If you have never volunteered for one of these community projects you are missing out. The energy is something you can not explain.

      The Brenham InsiderAuthor· Oct 13, 2:37 AM

That energy is real, and it's one of the things that keeps volunteers coming back year after year, there's something powerful about an entire community showing up with a shared purpose.

Amber Jo100% agree. I showed up not knowing anyone and left feeling like I'd lived here my whole life. Hard to put into words but you nailed it.

Always proud to live here. This is the kind of thing that makes Washington County feel like a real community and not just a place on a map.

Safety upgrades are huge. Some of those older park setups can be rough on kids. Glad they made that a priority.

    tim_h· Oct 10, 12:22 AM

Nice story but I wish they had interviewed some of the kids or parents. Would have been good to hear from them directly.

      marcus_b· Oct 10, 8:26 AM

tim_hThat's a fair point. A quote from one of the kids would have made this story so much better. Parents too. Hope they do a follow-up piece.

Hohlt Park is right down the street from us and we walk by it all the time. Going to have to stop in and see what all changed.

    • N
      neighbor_kim· Oct 10, 11:03 PM

Melanie BroussardDo it! It really does look a lot better. My kids were asking if we could stop and watch a game next time we walked by.

Youth sports changed my life. Any business willing to invest in that for another generation gets my full support.

The research backs up what so many of us know from lived experience, youth sports build far more than athletic skills, and businesses like WoodmenLife understand that investing in those programs is investing in the community's future.

Can we get a list of all the businesses that participated so we can support them back? I always want to shop local when I know they support the community.

Annual tradition is the key word here. A lot of companies do a one time thing and disappear. Coming back every year is what matters.

    • TI
      The Brenham InsiderAuthor· Oct 9, 9:07 PM

You've put your finger on exactly what makes this partnership special, the annual commitment signals to families that this support isn't a photo opportunity, it's a genuine, ongoing investment in Brenham's youth.

My nephew plays for Brenham Baseball and his whole team talked about how nice the field looked after the project. Kids noticed.

    • C
      CoachDave_Brenham· Oct 10, 3:55 AM

Lisa_TKids noticing is honestly the biggest compliment. They spend more time on those fields than anyone so if they're happy that says a lot.

WoodmenLife does insurance right? Never really thought of them as a community partner but clearly they are more than just a business.

We need something like this over here. Washington County is lucky to have partners willing to actually show up and do work.

The model behind the Giving Together Project, a local business partnering with a youth organization around shared values, is one that communities anywhere can replicate when the right partners find each other.

Leadership skills, time management, confidence. Sports gave me all of that growing up. Glad Brenham kids are getting the same chance.

Played little league at that park back in the day. Brings back memories. Good to know kids still have that place to grow up at.

    • TI
      The Brenham InsiderAuthor· Oct 9, 7:20 AM

That's exactly the kind of legacy Hohlt Park represents, generations of young athletes building memories on those same fields, and thanks to partnerships like this one, the next generation gets that same experience.

Huge thank you to every volunteer who showed up. Those days are hot and the work is hard and it means a lot to families like ours.

    • B
      Beth_Hohlt· Oct 9, 2:17 AM

Susan FinchSeriously. Showed up to help one year and it was close to 95 degrees by noon. People stayed the whole time anyway. That kind of dedication doesn't go unnoticed.

Your gratitude means everything, and we want to make sure those volunteers know their hard work is seen and deeply appreciated by the families they're serving.

      The Brenham InsiderAuthor· Oct 8, 3:11 AM

That consistency is a point of pride, when community investment becomes simply what a local partner does, rather than an exception, everyone benefits.

    • L
      longtime_brenham· Oct 8, 5:24 PM

Donna RamirezExactly. They're not showing up just for the photo op. They've been consistent year after year and that's what actually matters.

  • S
    skeptical_sam· Oct 7, 10:01 PM

I just hope the upgrades actually last and they keep up with the maintenance after the volunteers go home. That's always the issue.

Love seeing WoodmenLife step up every year for our kids. That park needed some work and glad someone is doing something about it.
