Joke Of The Day |
Someone asked a Washington County, TX local how he stays so calm during traffic jams. He said, "Son, when your county has more bluebonnets than stoplights, you learn real quick that patience is just scenery appreciation." |
Trivia Question❓In what year was Washington-on-the-Brazos, the site where Texas declared independence from Mexico, established as a town, making Washington County one of the most historically significant locations in Texas history? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
Blinn College football has a freshman safety whose impact reaches well beyond the tackle column.
Through his first five college games, K'hrin Hollerman became the Buccaneers' leading tackler and a steady voice at the back of their defense.
For fans in Washington County, his emergence offered something to watch as Blinn prepared to face No. 12 Snow College at Cub Stadium in Brenham.
Hollerman recorded 52 tackles in those five games, evenly divided between solo stops and assists.
He made at least eight tackles in every outing, reached 12 three times and added an interception and a pass breakup.
Those numbers reflect a direct approach: read the play, find the ball and get there before the runner escapes.
But his value is not confined to contact.
Playing safety gives Hollerman a view of the field, and he uses it to help teammates recognize what is developing.
From the secondary, he communicates with linebackers and defensive linemen, helping the unit get organized before the snap.
Head coach Ryan Mahon has praised Hollerman's awareness and understanding of the defense, qualities that help him reach plays and guide others.
That responsibility is notable for a player still in his first college season.
A Cypress Springs High School graduate from Houston, Hollerman credits his father with teaching him to embrace football's physical demands.
His tackling philosophy depends less on a ball carrier's size than on sound technique and a willingness to finish.
Just as important, he refuses to let his tackle total define a good performance.
Hollerman has focused instead on the next assignment, treating mistakes and losses as chances to improve.
That outlook matters for Blinn Buccaneers football against a Snow team Mahon described as disciplined and capable of making opponents uncomfortable.
The challenge is to turn effort into consistent plays, not merely a strong stretch or an impressive individual statistic.
At Cub Stadium, Hollerman's job remains familiar: communicate early, pursue the football and help the defense finish. |

Interception plus a pass breakup on top of 52 tackles. He's everywhere on that field.
Hollerman played near us in high school. Kid was always a baller. Not surprised at all.
Treat losses as chances to improve. Young people need to hear that more.
It's a philosophy that seems to run deep with him, he's focused on the next assignment rather than dwelling on setbacks, which is a big reason he's been so consistent week to week.
Good write up. Would love a story on the rest of the secondary too.
JohnQ_BrenhamYes! Would love to know more about who is playing alongside him back there. The whole secondary must be communicating well for a freshman to step into that role.
Been going to games at Cub Stadium for years and honestly the energy this season has been something else.
Dave_CubStadiumSame here, been coming out since my kids were little. Something about this group feels more locked in than recent years. Hoping they carry it into the Snow game.
A freshman leading in tackles AND being a vocal leader? This kid has a future for sure.
The combination really is rare, 52 tackles in five games is impressive enough on its own, but the communication role he plays from the secondary is what truly sets him apart at this stage.
Man I wish I had been around for a season like this one. Go get em Bucs.
The Buccaneers have been a lot of fun to watch this season, hope you get a chance to catch them in action soon!
Technique over size mentality is how you build a real tackler. Dad taught him right.
Marcus BellExactly right. You can always find a way to get low on a bigger back if your footwork is solid. Sounds like his dad drilled the basics into him young.
The way he uses his view of the field to help linebackers and linemen is next level football IQ.
Snow College being described as disciplined and uncomfortable to play against is an understatement. Blinn better be ready.
Cub Stadium on a fall night is just the best. Y'all come out and support these kids.
Cub Stadium in Brenham is a special setting, and with a matchup against No. 12 Snow College on the schedule, it's a great time to be in the stands.
Patty JoCouldn't agree more. Brought my kids last month and they're already asking when the next home game is. Good football and a great community night out.
52 tackles sounds great but let's see how he handles a top 12 team before we crown him.
My nephew goes to Blinn and says the defense this year feels different. Now I see why.
Karen M.That's cool to hear from someone on the inside. Stats are one thing but when the players themselves notice a difference that tells you something real.
That communication piece is underrated. A safety who gets everyone lined up right is worth so much.
As a Houston guy myself, proud to see a Cypress Springs kid balling out at Blinn.
Mahon knows talent when he sees it. Good to have a coach who puts young guys in position to shine.
DerekWAgreed. A lot of coaches would sit a freshman and let him learn from the bench. Mahon trusted him early and look how it paid off.
Freshman leading the team in tackles is wild. Most freshmen are just trying to learn the playbook.
That's exactly what makes Hollerman stand out, Coach Mahon has specifically praised his awareness and understanding of the defense, which goes well beyond what you typically see from a first-year player.
Gus PeraltaRight? Most freshmen are nervous just lining up correctly. Leading the team in tackles AND organizing the defense is just a different level of readiness.
Love that he doesn't let his tackle count define him. That's a mature mindset for any age.
Agreed, and Coach Mahon would tell you that mentality is a big part of why Hollerman is already helping teammates get organized before the snap rather than just chasing his own stat line.
Snow College is no joke. This will be a real test for him.
Blinn football been giving us something to cheer about lately. Good stuff.
The part about his dad teaching him to embrace the physical side is everything. That's how it starts.
12 tackles in a game THREE times. Unreal for a freshman.
Cypress Springs putting out players, love to see it.
Hollerman credits a lot of his foundation to his upbringing, so it's great to see Cypress Springs represented at the college level, Houston should be proud!
Can't wait to see him play at Cub Stadium. Go Bucs!!
It should be a fantastic game, Hollerman's job at Cub Stadium remains the same as always: communicate early, pursue the football, and help the defense finish!
BrenhamNativeIf you haven't been out to Cub Stadium yet this season you're missing out. The atmosphere on a Friday night is worth the drive.
52 tackles in five games as a freshman?? That kid is special.
