Girls volleyball success reflected in district volleyball standings |

Tip of The Day |
Catch Washington County's Hidden Star-Gazing Spots Before They Fill Up Washington County, TX sits far enough from Houston's light dome that on a clear night its rural pastures and rolling post-oak country offer surprisingly dark skies. Tonight, drive out along FM 390 between Brenham and Burton, pull off at one of the roadside pull-outs near an open field, and give your eyes at least 20 minutes to adjust. You'll often catch the Milky Way core without a single piece of equipment — no telescope required. The practical move: check the moon phase before you go. A new moon or crescent moon window gives you the darkest conditions. Apps like Clear Outside will also show you cloud cover hour by hour so you're not driving 30 minutes into a cloudy sky. Tell a friend your location before you head out, since some of the best pull-off spots have zero cell signal — which, of course, is exactly what makes them so dark and perfect. |
High school volleyball in Washington County, TX, has an unbeaten district story: Burton keeps finding ways to win.
The Burton Lady Panthers swept Snook on Tuesday night, extending their district record to 5-0 and their overall mark to 27-10.
For a team with postseason ambitions, that kind of consistency matters as much as any single dominant set.
Burton won 25-19, 25-11 and 25-23 at Burton High School Gym, where the Lady Panthers are now 2-0 in their newly renovated home facility.
The middle set gave Burton its widest margin, but the closer final set served as a reminder that an unbeaten district run still takes work.
Laci Broesche filled the stat sheet with seven kills, four aces, 12 digs and 29 assists, contributing across nearly every phase of the match.
Madalyn Henry added nine kills, four aces and nine digs, while Natalie Hodde supplied nine kills and seven digs.
Kinsey Lunbeck recorded seven kills and nine digs, and Adison Harmel finished with 12 digs and six assists.
That balance is a meaningful part of Burton's girls volleyball success: the Lady Panthers did not need one player to carry every point.
Instead, production came from several spots on the floor, a useful trait when district opponents get another look at a familiar lineup.
The win keeps Burton unbeaten in district play and strengthens its position in the district volleyball standings as the schedule reaches its second half.
Now comes the challenge of doing it again.
Burton travels to Somerville for a 4 p.m. match Friday, opening the return stretch of district play away from its renovated gym.
That change of setting makes the next test worth watching, even for a team that has handled every district opponent so far.
For Washington County fans, the sweep offers plenty to appreciate: steady results, contributions throughout the roster and another reason to follow Burton's season.
Staying unbeaten is never automatic, but the Lady Panthers have given themselves a strong foundation for the matches ahead. |

Stay healthy going into the second half. That's all I ask. Fingers crossed for Friday
Staying healthy through the second half of district play is exactly the kind of quiet priority that separates good seasons from great ones, fingers crossed here too.
27 wins already this season. These girls deserve way more attention than they get
The balance in this lineup is what good coaching looks like. Hats off to the staff
Washington County volleyball has been really fun to follow this year. Burton is for real
Friday at Somerville is a big one. 4pm start so hopefully folks can get off work and make the drive
Hats off to Burton. That middle set was rough but the girls kept fighting in the third
luke_snook_fanAppreciate that. Third set could have gone either way for a minute there. Your girls didn't quit either.
Adison Harmel with 12 digs is quietly holding the back row together. Huge for this team
Twelve digs and six assists without much fanfare, you're right that Harmel is doing exactly the kind of steady back-row work that keeps an unbeaten district run alive.
Back in my day we were lucky to go 3-2 in district lol. This group is special
5-0 in district and still have room to improve. That second set 25-11 was dominant
These girls work so hard at practice. People only see the wins but the hours they put in are real
Brenda LuceYou are so right. My daughter played club ball and people have no idea how many reps go into one match. These kids earn every win.
Can we get a watch party going for the Somerville match since it's away? Somebody organize it lol
Burton travels to Somerville for a 4 p.m. Friday start, so that's your window, sounds like the perfect excuse to get a watch party together for a match worth following.
Kinsey Lunbeck is so underrated. 7 kills and 9 digs and people sleep on her
Drove past the gym Tuesday and the parking lot was packed. Good to see the community showing up
Community support like that means a lot, and a packed parking lot on a Tuesday night says plenty about how Washington County fans feel about this team's season.
JeffT_BurtonSame! Had to circle around twice to find a spot. Nice to see the stands full on a Tuesday night.
Natalie Hodde with 9 kills too! That lineup is deep
Burton volleyball always shows up in the second half of district. This team feels different though
Love seeing balanced scoring. No one girl having to do everything makes them way harder to stop
Teresa WaldExactly. When you have five or six girls who can put the ball down it makes it really hard to key in on just one person.
Good luck Friday. Somerville is ready for you
Somerville on Friday is not going to be easy. That gym gets loud and the girls travel well
Patty Jo B.Heard the same thing. Somerville fans show up loud. Going to be a good test to see how the girls handle a road crowd.
27-10 overall is solid but who exactly are they playing outside of district? Curious about the competition level
It's a fair question, and while we focused on district play here, that overall record across a full 37-match slate does reflect a demanding schedule worth tracking as the postseason picture takes shape.
Madalyn Henry with 9 kills AND 4 aces. She's been on fire this season
The new gym looks great by the way. Nice upgrade for the program
Kim_SchultzNight and day compared to the old one honestly. The lighting alone makes such a difference for the players.
The Lady Panthers are now 2-0 in that renovated facility, so the upgrade is already paying off in more ways than one, it's a great home court for a program with postseason ambitions.
That third set going to 25-23 shows Snook wasn't just rolling over. Burton had to earn it
That's exactly the takeaway from that final set, the article noted it as a reminder that an unbeaten district run still takes work, and 25-23 against Snook is proof of that.
So proud of these girls. Been watching them since middle school and they just keep getting better
That kind of long-term connection to a program makes a 27-10 record and a 5-0 district start feel even more rewarding, thanks for sticking with them through the years.
Laci Broesche with 29 assists AND 4 aces? She was everywhere on that court
Travis KoonceThat assist number jumped out at me too. Running the whole offense AND serving aces is a lot to ask of one player. She made it look easy.
Go Lady Panthers!! 5-0 in district is no joke!!
Debbie M.And they still have the second half of district to go! If they keep this up it's going to be a fun playoff run.
