Brenham, Texas — This week in Washington County, we are celebrating a major milestone for one of our most beloved local businesses, catching up with the Cubs playoff run, and recapping the recent elections. Here is everything you need to know.
Hermann Furniture Marks 150 Years as Texas' Oldest Family-Owned Store
Hermann Furniture & Emporium is not just a store. It is a piece of Texas history right here in downtown Brenham.
Founded by Gottlieb Hermann in 1876, this family business has been passed down through five generations. Today, Jennifer J. Hermann carries the legacy forward as the current owner, operating a sprawling 30,000+ square foot destination that draws visitors from across the state.
But Hermann's is more than furniture. It is a community hub. The store hosts signature events throughout the year, including the Tabletop Event, Taste of Hermann's, Christmas in July, Fall Open House, and Thankful Thursdays supporting local hunger relief through Bread Partners.
The big news: Hermann Furniture is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a special community celebration on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Historic Downtown Brenham.
The public is invited to enjoy complimentary food and beverages, live entertainment, giveaways, special guests, and the opportunity to tour the store's anniversary displays while meeting members of the Hermann family.
Three generations. One hundred fifty years. One Brenham legacy.
Save the date: May 15, 5-7 PM at Hermann Furniture & Emporium in Historic Downtown Brenham.
